Workers Resources

Employment Legislation

Provincial Workers
The Employment Standards Code represents the minimum standards of employment in the Province of Alberta.  Your collective agreement has enhanced benefits and rights that are over and above the standards set out in the code.  In the Province of Saskatchewan the Labour Standards Act applies.
Federal Workers
All federal workers fall under the Canada Labour Code.

Health and Safety

Occupational Health & Safety is the agency responsible for enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations in the province of Alberta.  If you wish to file a complaint or report unsafe working conditions, report an immediately dangerous situation or have questions about health and safety in the workplace, contact the Occupational Health & Safety Contact Centre toll-free at 1-866-415-8690.  In Saskatchewan visit the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) website. Or call toll-free at 1-800-667-5023.   Federal workers fall under Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

WCB

If you are injured at work and require medical assistance or miss a day of work, the injury must be reported to the WCB.

The Alberta Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) of Alberta handles claims related to workplace injuries and illnesses. You can visit the WCB workers' page to find out the steps you must take or contact them toll-free at 1-866-922-9221.  Online reporting is available here.  In Saskatchewan visit the Saskatchewan WCB workers' page or contact them toll-free at 1-800-667-7590.
